My Sister, My Friend
![]()
There have been many times, I must admit,
that I resented your being pretty and smart;
but, through the vines of yesterday, our branches grew,
and you became a rose within my heart.Though sometimes, we did not always agree,
on matters, both large and small,
You were always there, when I needed you,
I tried to always be, when you needed me,
So our differences didn't matter, at all.We have gone through many changes,
and sometimes, took different paths down our various life highways.
But, no matter how far the distance may have been,
Your sunshine has always been able to brighten my darkest days.Of the same cloth, we both were cut,
And as each day passes, our patterns seem to be both one and the same.
Our bond has been formed by all the memories we share;
and always shall remain.I know that should the time ever come, when I grow weary,
You will gladly walk that extra mile.
I can always count on your understanding ways,
and be touched in my heart, by your ever knowing smile.I thank you from the bottom of my heart,
for you have proven to be a wonderful sister, time and time again.
But, most of all, Sis, I am very proud to say,
that you are my dearest and closest Friend.(c) Sandra Lewis Pringle

Author's note: I wrote this poem just a few months before my sister passed away, and wanted her to read it, which she was able to. As the treatments for her cancer had made her appearance so much different, I hugged her and told her that I thought she was just beautiful. I will never forget that particular smile I received, a true gift between sisters.
